Batteries and Charging

What kind of batteries are in my insoles?
Lithium Ion, 1000mAh, 3.7V, 3.7Wh. (Note: “watt hours” do not reflect how long the battery will last in the product or how long it will take the battery to charge or discharge.)

Can the batteries in the Heated Insoles be replaced?
Batteries in the ThermaCELL Original Heated Insoles cannot be replaced. Attempting to access the battery voids the warranty.

Can I bring my insoles and batteries on an airplane?
In general, the batteries are within the acceptable Federal Aviation Administration’s limits for Lithium Ion batteries. However, you should check with www.faa.gov for updated information and information on carrying the batteries in checked vs. carry-on baggage.

How long will it take to charge the batteries in my insoles?
It may take up to 4 hours to fully charge your ThermaCELL Heated Insoles.

How long will Heated Insoles remain charged?
Depending on the outside temperature and the insulating quality of the shoes or boots, fully charged Heated Insoles will run about 5 hours of constant warmth on Medium setting and about 3.5 hours of constant warmth on High setting. The "No Heat" setting will allow you to conserve battery life.

Can I recharge Heated Insoles before they are fully discharged?
You can recharge Heated Insoles before they are fully discharged.

How many times can Heated Insoles be recharged?
Heated Insoles can be recharged over 500 times.

Can I turn off the Heated Insoles any time or do I have to wait until they completely discharge?
You can turn off Heated Insoles at any time.

Will I damage my Insoles if I leave them plugged in (charging) for a long period of time?
No, leaving your ThermaCELL Heated Insoles plugged in (charging) for a long period of time will not damage the insoles.

How hard should I push the charger into the back of the Original Heated Insole?
You should push the charging jack into the charging port on the back of the Original Heated Insole until it "clicks" into place.

If I leave the Original Heated Insoles' power switch in the ON position while charging the Heated Insoles, will I damage them?
No, but it is recommended that the switch be in the off position during charging.

What precautions should I take while or before charging my ThermaCELL Heated Insoles?
Please be sure to only insert the Heated Insoles charger into the charging port on the heel of your Heated Insoles. Make sure not to insert the charger into the gaps to the left or right of the charging port, this could damage your Heated Insoles and cause them to fail.

When using the Wall or Car Charger, can I charge one heated insole at a time or do I have to charge both at the same time?
You can charge one or both Heated Insoles at a time in a ThermaCELL wall or car charger.

How do I tell if my Wall Charger is working?
When insoles are charging, the LED on the inline connector on the wall charger will glow green. When insoles are fully charged, this light will extinguish.

Heat

What should I do if my insoles are not heating correctly?
Follow these steps:

Ensure that your power source for charging is working, charging cords and connections are secure, and that your insoles are fully charged.
Make sure the LED on the remote flashes when a heat setting is pressed. If you do not see the LED flash, the battery in your remote is dead. The battery in the remote is a Lithium Cell CR2032. This battery is available at most retail stores that sell batteries. Instructions for replacing the battery are included in Frequently Asked Questions on this website. 
Verify that your insoles are responding to the remote control. You should see the following LED light indications on your insoles: 1 flash = No Heat, 2 flashes = Medium, 3 flashes = High. If your insoles are not responding to the remote, re-pair the remote and insoles. Instructions for re-pairing your remote are included in Frequently Asked Questions on this website. 
My Heated Insoles don’t get “hot” to the touch. Is there something wrong with them?
Heated Insoles create an optimal warm environment inside your boot, they don’t get “hot” to the touch. They will never get as hot as your disposable heated products. Heated Insoles are intended to keep your feet comfortable and warm in cold weather, rather than hot and sweaty. They maintain a temperature inside your boot or shoe of 100°F - 111°F (depending on the temperature setting chosen).

My feet aren't staying warm when using my Heated Insoles, but the insoles do produce warmth. What should I do?
Make sure your shoes or boots are completely dry inside.
Insoles should be turned on at the first sign of a chill. It is better to be proactive rather than reactive with this product.
Make sure there is some space/air between the tops of your feet and the top of your boot. The air between will act as insulation and allows the warmth to circulate. If the top of your foot is pressed against the top of your boots, cold from the outside will transfer quickly into your foot.
What can I do if my Heated Insoles are too warm, even when set on the Medium setting?
Temperature comfort will depend on the individual as well as the type, fit, and dryness of the socks and footwear you wear. You can use the No Heat setting on the Heated Insoles for a period of time until more heat is needed.

What temperature should my Heated Insoles reach?
Exposing the insole to the open air will cause the insole to become cooler on the surface. Your Heated Insoles regulate to a temperature of 100°F on Medium or 111°F on High when enclosed in footwear.

What heat setting should I use when doing vigorous activity?
When doing strenuous activity, Heated Insoles should be in No Heat mode. At high exertion levels, the body typically generates enough heat to keep feet warm.

How do I know the Heated Insoles are working?
The LED on the insoles will flash 1-3 times, depending on the heat setting selected. On Original Insoles, the LED is located at the heel of each insole. You should feel the warmth on the upper surface of a Heated Insole when it is held to your cheek or ear.

How do I turn off Heated Insoles?
If the Heated Insoles are not going to be used again immediately, turn them completely off. For the Original Heated Insoles, take the insoles out of your boots and turn the switch on the heel of each heated insole to the Off position (right). 
If the Heated Insoles are going to be used again immediately, switch the remote control to the No Heat setting.
Remote

What should I do if the temperature of the Heated Insoles doesn’t change when I press the remote buttons?
Make sure the LED on the remote flashed when a heat setting is pressed. If you do not see the LED flash, the battery in your remote is dead. The battery in the remote is a Lithium Cell CR2032. This battery is available at most retail stores that sell batteries.

Check to make sure the LEDs at the heel of the Heated Insoles are flashing in groups of 3 (indicating they are on the High setting) or in groups of 2 (indicating they are on the Medium setting). 
If the LEDs are not flashing, fully discharge the Heated Insoles and then recharge them. 
If this still does not fix the problem, please reprogram or "re-pair" your ThermaCELL Heated Insoles with the remote control. Instructions for re-pairing your remote are included in Frequently Asked Questions on this website. 
What does the No Heat setting on the remote control mean?
The No Heat setting means that No Heat is being generated by the Heated Insoles. It is a standby setting that indicates that the remote control is active and waiting for a command.

Can I get a replacement remote control?
The remote control is under warranty for defects for one year from the date of purchase. You can purchase a remote control from this website. Replacement remotes on this website can only be sold to customers in the contiguous USA. For customers in Alaska, Hawaii or Canada, please contact Customer Service.

My remote is not working. What can I do?
First, check the remote to ensure the plastic tab has been removed. Then, press any button on the remote control and verify that the LED on the remote control flashes one time. If the LED does not flash, put a new battery in the remote control.

How do I reprogram or “re-pair” my remote to my insoles?
Turn each insole on.
Re-pair one insole at a time.
Insert and remove the charging cable 2x very quickly until the LED illuminates (you don’t have to click the cable into the port).
The insole LED will start flashing one long flash then four very short flashes to indicate “pairing mode”. 
This flash sequence will only appear three times. After that, start over because the pairing mode has timed out.
Press any button on the remote. The remote is now re-paired with that insole.
Repeat the same steps with the other insole.

How long does the remote control battery last?
The battery should last up to two years with normal use. To ensure uninterrupted service from the remote control, replace the battery annually.

How do I replace the battery in my remote?
The battery in the remote is a Lithium Cell CR2032. This battery is available at most retail stores that sell batteries.

Remove the four screws on the back of the remote. 
Remove the green printed circuit board and turn the board over so the battery is facing up. 
Use a coin to gently push the battery out from under the battery holder. 
Insert the new battery with the positive side (+) facing up. 
Return the green circuit board to its original position making certain the battery is located on the underside of the printed circuit board.
Replace the four screws into the back of the remote.

Care and Comfort

How should I store my insoles?
Fully charge the batteries.Store in a cool, dry place. If storing for more than a few days, periodically charge the batteries to ensure optimum performance when you use the product again.

Do ThermaCELL Heated Insoles work in all kinds of footwear?
Heated Insoles work in most types of shoes or boots. They fit best in shoes or boots that have removable insoles. Heated Insoles perform best in an enclosed shoe or boot.

Do existing insoles need to be removed from footwear before inserting Heated Insoles?
For a perfect fit with Heated Insoles, remove the existing insoles in your shoes if needed. Also consider the thickness of the socks you’ll be wearing as heavier socks will make your footwear tighter.

Are there any medical conditions that prohibit the use of ThermaCELL Heated Insoles?
If you suffer from any medical foot conditions, consult your physician before using ThermaCELL Heated Insoles.

How do I clean the Heated Insoles?
Clean Heated Insoles only with a damp cloth.

Are ThermaCELL Heated Insoles waterproof?
Heated Insoles are water-resistant, not waterproof. The warranty does not cover Heated Insoles with water damage of any kind. The insoles may function properly after being dried out, but there is no guarantee. Perspiration should not be a problem.

What can I do if Heated Insoles become wet?
If Heated Insoles become wet, air-dry them completely before charging them or wearing them again. Do not place the product on a radiator or any other hot surface.

If I cut beyond the solid line while sizing Heated Insoles, will they still work?
Cutting beyond the solid line can damage the product. Cutting beyond the solid line will void the product’s warranty.

Should I be concerned about stepping on an object that could puncture my footwear and insole(s)?
This product should not be used in any environment where there is a likelihood of it being punctured by sharp objects. Under no circumstances should a battery or insole that has been punctured be connected to the charger.

If I notice that my product is damaged, what should I do?
If there is any indication that the product has been damaged, it should not be used or recharged. Please contact customer service.
